Trumpet spectacular at the « Città di Porcia”

Henri Tomasi and Ivan Jevtic at the orchestra finals

The International Competition 'Città di Porcia ' is the only specific brass event organized in Italy and ranks among the most important in the world. Prizes include not only cash pawards, but also concert prizes in collaboration with important Italian associations.

The 34th edition of the International Competition “Città di Porcia”, dedicated to trumpet, closed with the finals at the Verdi Theater in Pordenone last month. The three competitors, accompanied by the FVG Orchestra, conducted by Paolo Paroni, competed with two pieces of their choice from the repertoire for trumpet and orchestra, the Concerto by French composer Henri Tomasi and Concerto No. 1by Ivan Jevtić, a French composer of Serbian origin. While awaiting the verdict from the technical jury, the evening's program was completed with a performance of the Masquerade Suite by Aram Khachaturian, a distinguished 20th-century Armenian composer.

The victory went to Raphaël Horrach from Lyon, whose performance won over the jury (chaired by Gabriele Cassone and composed of such eminent personalities as Eric Aubier, Jeroen Berwaerts, Edward J. Carroll, Guang Chen, Andrea Dell'Ira and Mireia Farrés).

Raphael Horrach, 1st prize winner

The jurors, who came from different schools and musical traditions, awarded second place ex aequo to Yidan Chang and Jasmin Iris Ghera, both young and promising trumpet players of international format.

Yidan Chang, born in 1995, studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the University of Music in Freiburg, while Jasmin Iris Ghera, originally from Sardinia, trained at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
