Last Day at the Geneva Competition

It was almost 23:30 when Jury Chairman Alexei Ogrintchouk stepped on stage at Geneva´s Victoria Hall to comment on the results of the 2021 Oboe Competition. „One person, one opinion“, he said, „one person, one vote“, indicating it had not been an easy decision for the jury to decide on a winner. In the end, they agreed on three Third Prizes, one for each finalist: Natalia Auli (26, Venezuela), Louis Baumann (26, France), and Zhiyu Sandy Xu (28, Australia). While the audience was obviously disappointed, the competition had actually turned out an extremely high level of playing from the very beginning and had shown a wide spectrum of very different artists.

Among the 170 applications, 32 were selected to submit videos of a complete recital; 8 were invited to travel to Geneva and compete live at the Semi-Finals; 3 were selected to perform at the finals in Victoria Hall. The prizes itself are actually only one part of the career development support offered by the Geneva Competition: winners will receive Concerts, Recordings, Concert Tours and workshops on performance, health, career management, image and social media.
