Prizes awarded at the 2022 Johann Sebastian Bach Competition

A festive Winner´s Concert on 25 July ended the 2022 Johann Sebastian Bach-Competition in Leipzig. At this year´s competion, 37 artists from 19 countries performed in the disciplines Piano, Harpsichord and Violin/ Baroque Violin. The final still counted 18 musicians from 13 nations.

In the harpsichord category, the winner was Alexander von Heißen (Germany), followed by Irene González Roldán (Spain) and Dmytro Kokoshynskyy (Ukraine). The discipline Piano were won by Olga Davnis (Russia), Mattia Fusi (Italy) and Eden Agranat Meged (Israel). Violin/ Baroque Violin winners were Charlotte Spruit (The Netherlands), Qingzhu Weng (China) and Sophia Prodanova (Bulgaria). Awards in all disciplines are 10.000 Euros for the 1st Prize, and 7500 and 5000 Euro for 2nd and 3rd Prizes, respectively. The 2022 winners will also be invited to various national and international engagements.

Founded in 1950, the International J.S. Bach Competition has taken place every 4 years, since 1996 every two years, alternating in Violin/Baroque Violin, Piano and Cembalo, and Voice, Cello/Baroque cello, and Organ. One of the few competitions with a focus on baroque music, it is presented as a cooperation between the Bach Archive Leipzig and the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy University of Music. Since 2002, the president of the competition is the pianist and musicologist Robert Levin.
