Jonathon Ramsay was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1994. He first studied at the
Conservatory of his hometown, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2014. In 2018 he became
became a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic - as a pupil of Olaf Ott, with whom he is currently
with whom he is currently continuing his studies at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. He is a sought-after trombonist on the European music scene and regularly appears as a guest with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Berlin and the London Symphony Orchestra. Having played regularly with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra since 2020, he is now a permanent member of the ensemble. Since April 2022, he has been principal trombonist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2019, Jonathon Ramsay was a 1st prize winner at the Aeolus International
Wind Competition as well as at the Concorso Internazionale "Città di Porcia". He is also an active soloist and enjoys playing as a guest in various chamber ensembles, including. German Brass, the brass ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brass Ensemble of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Before moving to Europe, Jonathon Ramsay was principal trombonist of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra - a position he won at the age of only 20.
