The competition has been held every four years since its inception and has served as a platform for nurturing talented young pianists who will play a leading role in the future development of the world's musical culture. The competition also offers an opportunity for pianists to showcase the fruits of their hard work and devotion and to support their international activities thus contributing to international exchange.

The competition, now in its 6th year in 2026, is highly acclaimed for its musical quality and has produced many world-class pianists. Winners are given numerous opportunities for concerts and recitals in Japan and abroad, which have been a great driving force for them to spread their wings worldwide.
