Seoul - Seoul International Music Competition

Seoul International Music Competition was established by the Dong-A Ilbo, the most prestigious daily newspaper in Korea, and Seoul Metropolitan Government for the sake of promoting cultural exchanges among nations through music and supporting talented young musicians from all over the world. The Competition is held annually for piano, violin and voice, in a rotating sequence.

The category for 2024 competition is PIANO and the competition will be held from December 1st to 13rd in Seoul.

As the first prestigious international competition ever taken place in Korea, the Seoul International Competition has produced and promoted world-renowned artists such as Aviram Reichert (Piano Faculty at Seoul National University, Korea), Ju-Young Baek (Violin Faculty at Seoul National University, Korea), Liviu Prunaru (Former Concertmaster of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Netherlands), Paul (Byung Woo) Kong (Baritone, Voice Faculty at Chonnam National University, Korea) and Mariya Kim, Clara-Jumi Kang, Stefan Marian Pop, Georgy Gromov, Chi Ho Han, etc., who play critical roles in international music field.

For the 1st prize winner, the competition offers the world-class awards such as US $50,000, performance engagements with major orchestras throughout the world, recital engagements, and etc. Also to support the young pianists who have great potential, the competition will cover the costs of round-trip airfare and accommodation fee for non-Korean competitors selected for the First Round.

For this competition, world famous pianists, Angela Cheng (Canada), Markus Groh (Germany), Sofya Gulyak (Lithuania/Russia), Thierry Huillet (France), Hee Sung Joo (Korea), Kevin Kenner (USA), Aleksandar Madzar (Serbia/Belgium), Roberto Plano (Italy/USA), Minsoo Sohn (Korea), and Danwen Wei (China), are invited to the competition as Jury Members.

As the leading international music competition in Korea, the Seoul International Music Competition will contribute to raising to the level of general musical performances in Korea, and help bringing forth the nation into the world as one of the representing places for music.
