Roma - Luciano Berio International Composition Competition
The mission of this triennal competition is to promote contemporary Art Music and young composers through the production and diffusion of new pieces for symphonic orchestra.
For its organization the Santa Cecilia National Academy leads a partnership that reunites a network of major Italian Symphonic Orchestras, namely, its own, the Filarmonica della Scala, the RAI National Symphonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Carlo Felice Theatre.
To participate in the Competition, candidates are requested to submit two scores written for different instrumentations; it is possible to submit works that have already been performed or published, as long as they are presented anonymously. The aim is to offer young composers the opportunity to compete with the works that they consider to be most representative of their creative style. The Jury awards the First Prize to the most convincing composer, who receives a commission worth 20,000 Eur to write a work for large symphonic orchestra that will be performed by all the partner orchestras and published by Universal Edition (UE) via scodo.
The Competition is organized in collaboration with the "Centro Studi Luciano Berio" and is named after Luciano Berio who was, in the last years of his life, esteemed President of the Santa Cecilia Academy.
