DMZ OPEN International Music Festival

The DMZ OPEN International Music Festival aims to convey the message of peace through music, symbolized by the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). The DMZ serves as the military-controlled area that separates North and South Korea after the Korean War. The objective of the 2023 Festival was to transcend the solemn history of the DMZ and foster a heightened awareness of humanity and peace. The festival was held at the Aram Concert Hall in Goyang City, situated in the DMZ border area of Gyeonggi Province.

The DMZ OPEN Festival, themed “Open DMZ, Greater Peace,” is hosted by Gyeonggi Province and organized by the Gyeonggi Tourism Corporation. It traces its origins back to the commencement of the Gyeonggi DMZ Festival in 2005, which began with the establishment of the Peace Nuri in Paju in August 2005 and developed into a global peace festival. Over the years, the festival has grown, encompassing various genres such as academic conferences, film festivals, walking events, marathons, cycling races, exhibitions, and performances in and around Imjingak and the Gyeonggi DMZ region. In 2019, it evolved into the “Let’s DMZ” Integrated Festival and, starting in 2023, was rebranded as the DMZ OPEN Festival. In commemoration of 70 years since the armistice, the festival took place from May to November, featuring a variety of events to promote the ecological, peaceful, and historical values of the DMZ in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province.
