Matouš Zukal began playing the piano when he was seven years old. He studied with J. Němcová at the City of Prague Grammar and Music School and with I. Kahánek at the Prague Conservatorium, and is currently continuing his studies with Prof. Kahánek at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Since childhood, he has been an active participant in masterclasses and consultations with top international professors. In 2016, 2018 and 2019 he attended masterclasses given by Prof. J. Hlinka and L. O. Andsnes in Bergen, Norway. In 2021, Matouš received a scholarship to study in the class of Prof. M. Chernyavska at the International Music Academy in Lichtenstein. Currently he is a member of the Academy of Chamber Music. In 2020, he performed in Dvořákova Praha Festival, where he participated in a marathon performance of the complete piano works of Antonín Dvořák. He received a number of awards in piano competitions while still a student: Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte, Broumovská klávesa, and the Conservatories and Music Grammar Schools Competition Showcase. In 2011, 2013 and 2015, he was a laureate of the Young Piano of the Prague Conservatorium. In 2019 he won the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation competition. He became a laureate of the Prague Spring International Competition, winning 2nd prize and the Gideon Klein special prize for the best competitor from the Czech Republic.
