Jelena Horvat was born into a family of professional musicians and began to play the violin at the age of 6, studying with Dragutin Mladenović at the School for Musically Gifted Children in Ćuprija, Serbia. Jelena has won prizes in numerous competitions, including the Petar Konjović, Kocian, and Postacchini international violin competitions, and 1st prize at the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Competition 2022.
In 2015, Jelena was offered a scholarship at The Yehudi Menuhin School in England and went on to study there with Natasha Boyarsky and Lutsia Ibragimova. She has performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician in venues such as the Menuhin Hall, Kings Place, and Teatro alla Scala. Jelena has taken part in numerous courses, including the Carl Flesch Akademie and Colluvio Chamber Music Academy, and has had masterclasses with Mihaela Martin, Alina Ibragimova, Kolja Blacher, and Robert Levin. In 2019, Jelena played in the Gstaad Menuhin Festival in Switzerland. In the winter of that year, she performed Bach’s Double Violin Concerto with the ESYO on tour as a Homage to Yehudi Menuhin in Italy.
Jelena is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree at The Royal College of Music under the guidance of Radu Blidar and is kindly supported by the Rose Williams Scholarship. In the past, she has been supported by the Drake Calleja Trust and the Hattori Foundation.
